best Kite Spot Marsala
all the characteristic that make this location unique

“ When you try once kitesurfing at the Marsala Lagoon, you will come there again and again. “
Ancient proverb
Kitesurfing in a natural reserve
The Lagoon offers a unique setting to enjoy kitesurfing, around the small islands of Santa Maria, Schola, Mothia and Isola Lunga, you’ll be surfing through windmills and white mountains of sea-salt, with the company of the unique local wildlife. This territory is the favourite location for pink flamingos, black-winged stilt, wild ducks and herons. The island of Mothia, which can be visited thanks to the various piers along the coast, is famous for being the residence of the Roman Emperor Cicerone, who was superintendent there in 76 BC.
The Stagnone Lagoon is famous for its constant thermal winds and mild temperatures, making it a paradise for kiters and windsurfers.
Warm temperatures
The lagoon enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long, mild summers.
- Spring and autumn: air temperatures between 20 and 28°C, water between 18 and 24°C, perfect for long sessions on the water.
- Summer: the air can exceed 30°C, while the water reaches up to 28°C, allowing water sports without a wetsuit.
- Winter: temperatures remain pleasant, averaging around 14-18°C, and the water rarely falls below 16°C, making the lagoon usable all year round.
Thermal winds
The winds in the Stagnone Lagoon are mainly thermal, generated by the contrast between the temperature of the air and that of the sea. Here are the main characteristics:
- Mistral (north-west): blows steadily, especially in the afternoon, thanks to the thermal effect. It is one of the winds most appreciated by kiters.
- Sirocco (South-East): can be stronger and more unstable, bringing warm, humid air.
- Ponente (West): often moderate, it strengthens in the afternoon with the thermal effect.
- Local thermal: on days of high pressure, with no disturbances, a thermal wind from the north-northwest is activated, which can reach 15-20 knots in the afternoon, perfect for kitesurfing.
Thanks to these conditions, the Stagnone is a perfect place for kitesurfing in all seasons, with reliable winds and warm, flat water ideal for improving one’s skills.

OUR SPOT
Where is the KiteClub Marsala
By now, you’ve probably realized that the Stagnone Lagoon is an incredible place for kitesurfing—but not all parts of the coastline are the same.
While most schools are concentrated in the northern areas of Santa Maria and Birgi, we are located further south, closer to Marsala city.
This spot is ideal for kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and hydrofoiling, thanks to its deeper yet still shallow waters.
Here, the atmosphere is more relaxed and less crowded. Many locals choose this area, and in the summer, it comes alive with an authentic Sicilian vibe.

Frequent Asked Questions
How long is the beginner course?
The beginner course lasts a total of 6 hours with a private instructor. On average, you will need about 2 to 3 days to complete it and have a lot of fun!
And after the course, can I launch on my own?
If at the end of the course you can get upwind (windward), you are officially ready to explore safely! Consider that the bottom in front of our spot is super friendly: it never exceeds 1 meter. Basically, it’s like playing in the bathtub-but a lot more fun!
Will I have to pay for the course in one lump sum when I arrive?
Take it easy, no immediate bloodletting! You will pay for the course only for the hours actually taken, at the end of the day or before you leave. In short, you pay only for the fun you receive, with no surprises!
Is it possible to practice Wing Foil or Kite Foil?
Absolutely! Our center is located right in the deepest part of the lagoon. In short, a foilers’ paradise! Just a couple of edges and you are already in the perfect area, with water on 2.50 meters. So if you feel like flying over water, you’re in the right place!
